OK everyone. I just bought a 2000 C280 (59,000 miles) and now what? The body/interior is in great condition but the rims are brutal.
First, I would like to upgrade the rims to 16" but the tires are brand new (15"). I am thinking of the AMG star look does anyone have any suggestions - either aftermarket or OEM?
Secondly, I read a thread of the flat STAR on the hood with the STAR grille. It looks nice - most likely I will get them. Where is the best price on the items? ebay ? What should I search for????
Third - I am thinking of a KN airfilter? Any improvement with one? For $50, this is probably a good buy.
Forth - What type of "bolt on" upgrades do you folks suggest? Love to hear them
Fifth - How easy/challenging is it to change the tranny fluid? I was reading a post online and it looks pretty easy. anyone have a sugestion?
Sixth - I was thinking about spacing the "rims" out - it looks like a wider wheel base would be a nice way to improve the handling and look. Any suggestions on the 5MM or 10MM spacers? Your suggestions would be great to hear on this one.
I never owned a German car so this is a first.
THANKS

Put a nice set of AMG rims on it tint the windows slightly then leave the rest stock!
You have a nice car dont mess with it. Trust me my another brand of car if u really want to put aftermarket things on it.

I've had my '99 C280 Sport for almost three months now. I agree with mbz300sdl. These cars are really well engineered stock. Also, they are full of electronics which depend on other systems working as designed. I put a K&N filter in right away. No prob. I might change some appearence pieces, but other than that, I'm going to stay stock. (Not even sure I want to tint the windows)
Enjoy!
BTW-My car came with 16" rims 'cause it's the Sport version. Personally, I don't think you'd have a prob moving up to 16's. Even there, I'd check with MB just to reasure myself that I don't screw up some sensor reading.

I agree with members above.
Have heard about people buying KIA, or Chevrolet and then upgrading them to look more like Mercedes, but starting with Mercedes where you want to go.
Do you want low-profile tires for the look, for better cornering, or for harsh ride?

or modify the hell out of it so,
now that you own a nice mercedes you wont have another one identical pulling up next to you at the traffic lights :-).
If i was you i would go to 17" rims and not 16" 17s are more common and tires can be cheaper to buy for 17s over 16s.
it will improve the handling and look heaps better.
Yes change the tranny fluid.
no dont get rim spacers get bigger wheels
and 35% tints (the lightest ones easily available) will protect your nice interior and make it easier on your eyes when you drive
These are my views, and personally i think they will make your car look more unique/nice and show to the rest of the world you have an interest in cars and dont just buy them and drive them stock

Hey thanks for the note. Ijust received my 16" rims and tires from tirerack. Unfortunately, only 3 of the 4 arrived. I ended up getting the borbet CA's. They are pretty conserative in design. I am also awaiting the flat hood emblem and the star grill. Should look great and yes, conservative, when everything is on.
drive safe.
