How do you remove the entire ashtray [] ..., its 1997 MBZ C230

I don't know if your ashtray is the same as my 2000, but here is what I did to remove my ashtray assembly.

Pull off the ring around the gear shifter. Then prey, carefully, the plate around the gear shift with a flat head screwdriver.

Then there is a little plastic tray right underneath the ashtray. Pull that out.. No screws.

Then unscrew the two screws that hold that little cubby above the ashtray and pull that out.

There are two little plastic screws at the bast of the ashtray. Unscrew those and make sure they don't fall down into the transmission area. :-)

KEEP THOSE SCREWS!!!!

does anyone have the part number for the plastic screws that hold the ashtray in?? I lost one and the dealer can't find the part number on their parts system.... Real pain the rear...
