Is there a way to have the front window defrost set to come on automatically rather then having to reach for the button everytime the window frosts up? I set the cabin setting to circulate air from top vent and front vents but it does not seem to help eliminate all the frost only partialwithout having to press the defrost button.

I've owned many MBs but the defrost button has to be engaged manually in every case. My 2002 coupe is the worst for humidity even with the 'Auto' setting (which will engage the AC).
Of course, the defrost works the best when the engine temp is up to its properoperating level.

With multiple passengers, use A/C in manual mode with fan setting on med/high & temperature regulated to approx 70F.
I never seem to have that problem because I'm mostly alone in my car! (I make my wife walk or take a bus) J/K.

 

Hahaha I wish I could make the wife walk let alone drive the Merc Her driving style is just a bit harsh in some cases [&o] Ill give the auto mode a shot but it's mostly on rainy days I have the problem.
