Yes, you could call them slots. They are about 1/16X1/4in. I didn't go probing inside to see how deep.

i have a 01 c240 too, do I need to go the dealer to get an oil change, or can i do it myself, or even a normal car shop?

if you can locate the drain plug, oil filter, got the tools, and knows to reset the service interval indicator... then it will be a half hour fun doing it.

2002 C240.
I let the counter count, then take it in to my local Benz dealership to be serviced - They change the oil, filter, and reset the counter. This is maybe 2 times a year and I was kinda worried that didn't seem like enough, but from what I have read here, it's perfect. Thanks guys.
