engine code p0441
Hey, I own a 96 c220 and the check engine light comes on peroidically. I have a code reader and it reads p0441, purge valve problems. Plus when stopping the engine like revs a little and jerks, dont know what that is. I just replaced the mas sensor. It also idles irratically when in park. I was wondering if there is any way to clean the purge valve, or if its the egr valve. I also have no idea where they are both located. Any help would be awesome!
The egr valve is probably ar the right rear of the engine near the top . just behnd the air intake manifold . It has a torx bolt holdong it on . There is a pipe fitting which the pipe runs under the engine over to what I call the diverter ( purge ? ) valve that is fed from a pipe running off the exhaust manifold . The pipes can clog . Most of the mechancal valves ( EGR and the other one ) are pretty hardy and don't generally fault . Pull the black housing off the front of the motor at the front end of the valve/cam cover and check all the vacuum connections as well as the hard plastic lines . Yes , carb cleaner will soften the crud and an old speedo cable or wire will dislodge the crud .
