Default Check Engine Light / Vacuum leak connection?

Hello,

Recently I had some problems with the rear headrests being stuck in the upright positon. I got them fixed by reattaching the white vacuum line to the engine. It had become disconnected for a few days. While it was disconnected, I noticed that the engine was running slightly rough. The check engine light came on.

Now I've reconnected the hose, the headrests work fine, the engine runs great, but the 'check engine' light remains lit. Is there a way to reset? I'd hate to have to go to the dealer to reset it after I saved all that $$ by finding out the problem myself.

Any solution to get that light off??

Thanks as always

Sure - remove the negative battery cable for 15 minutes or so. That should reset the check engine light....also make sure your gas cap is on tight - a loose cap will cause your CEL to come on as well.

I'll try the battery, but won't that disconnect the radio codes? I remember there was something about the code for the radio that I needed to be aware of.

Yeah - if you don't have the code for the radio check with a MB dealer. They may want proof of ownership (mine didn't, but it's logical they would want it). They just put the VIN in the computer and wrote the code down for me. A service advisor should be able to do it for you and shouldn't charge you.

I did the battery disconnect several times on my 99 C280 and the radio wasn't effected. But I had to reset the one touch power window feature the ESP, the sunroof and a few other things, which slip my mind at the moment. If you have an owner's manual it is all in there. If you don't buy one they come in very handy.
