Default CEL Code PO128

What does the code mean? And, what is the repair for this code? I was told by a typical hand held meter that it has something to do with the coolant and or thermostat. Running temp is OK, dash gauge always in normal range. Trying to get some help here before I get raped at the dealership. BTW, 2005 C230 Kompressor with 60k on the odometer. Thanks in advance for any help.

Steve, Late reply but I wanted to share as others may benefit.

Got the same P0128 code on my 2004 C230K @ 99K miles. Reader said Thermostat, Coolant Level or Sensor. Replaced thermostat and after 3 trips with car CEL went off.

Noticed old thermostat had a pinched gasket which must have been letting coolant flow as engine temp would not go over 80 C.

For others ordering this Thermostat, first place I got it from was wrong despite their online parts catalogue indicating it was correct. Ended up buying a Beck Arnley 143-0854 Thermostat off Amazon.com for $28. Driving a 2004 C230 Kompressor Sport Sedan w/1.8 I4 6 Spd.

Unhappy Limp mode?

Hi,

Check engine light came on and my wife said the car was roaring and move slowly(in high RPM). I assume the car was in limp mode. Fault code pulled-

P0720(output Speed sensor)
p1747(Electric Gear Selection module)
P0130(Bank 1 sensor)(O2?)

Cleared the codes and this morning same limp mode problem occurred after a fe days, but no check engine light. She pulled over and put gear back to P and moved from P to D and the cars runs fine again.

Any advice what could be wrong? The car has about 85K miles only.

Thanks!
dave
