RE: Calling owners of Mercedes C350/C280 Sports Sedan
In February 06, I got my 2000 C280 Sport with 39K miles from a Toyota dealership in PA. Their asking price was $18,000 and I insisted that I wanted the full "platinum" 4yr warranty which costs $4,000. Add in taxes, fees, tags, etc... the total price came out to about $24,000.
3.5 hours later, I was out the door for $14,000!!!!!!! They had had the car for a few months and wanted it gone. I was being a total hardnose and absolutely refused to budge. At one point after about 3 hours, we got up to leave.... the dealership hated us for it, but hey, I got what I wanted for a decent price.
Anyway, long story short, for a W202 C280 Sport, I would expect to pay in the $11-15 range for decent car.

I paid $12,300 in July 2005. It's a 1999 C280 Sport and had 77K mi. at time of purchase. No warranty. I purchased it in Boise ID from Lyle Pearson Mercedes. It was, and is, in tip top shape.
Options:
1.) Package C1, Headlamp washer/wipers, Xenon Headlamps & rain- sensing Intermittent W/S wipers. Self-leaveling headlamps
2.) Package C6, Sport Package 16" sport wheels, full leather sport seats, telescoping steering wheel, sport suspension ....etc.
3.) Moon roof
4.) Premium Bose 8 speaker sound
5.) Heated and electrically adjustable front seats
6.) Anti-theft/ anti-break-in warning system with anti-towing system
7.) Electric window lifters
8.) Auto-dimming rear view and side mirrors
9.) Paint coat preservation
Other stuff which may be standard.
I think you got a good deal. Especially with a 4 year full coverage warranty and low miles. At the time, I got mine at a relatively good price, too. I don't think the initial purchase price is as important as the shape of the car. The difference between two 6-7 year old cars can be worlds apart depending on how it was cared for.

Out the door I paid about $18,000 (with $2,500 premium warranty) for my 1999 C280 Sport. When I bought the car it had 57,000 miles. So far i have put about $3,000 into repairs so i highly reccomend that you get a mechanic to look at it before even if its from a dealership. I agree with RockSolid that the shape of the car is most important.
