Default C36 vs. C43

Looking for a high performance car been looking at vettes, wrx's, M3s and have come down to the idea that i still want to have at least one Mercedes among my cars at all times and it seems it will be easier to sell my benzes than to sell my rodeo plus i need a 4x4 at all times also. So i think it has come down between these two. Any thoughts about one over the other than the 36 is older and i can get one a little less but not enough to make a difference. And maybe someone knows were the C36 engine came from obvious the the 43 is a e430 engine. What do u guys think?

I don't remember reading a post from an owner of a C36 or C43 on this forum-so, perhaps not a lot of experience with those cars.
I would tend to think C43. I believe that model began in '98 and replaced the C36. One assumes that besides the new V6 engine, there wouild be other advances.

hm, I haven't heard a peep from either one of these cars in a while. I bought the 1:18 scale model of the C36 when it first went into production. Give me a day and I can go back into some of my old files and see what I can dig up.

c36 engine is based around the early c280 straight six engine, bored slightly and stroked alot, to 3.6ltr. produces around 280hp.
the c43 has a 4.3ltr v8 and has the same block as the mercedes 5.5ltr v8, so you can do a swap and make a c55, just a plug in engine change, but expensive.
If i were you i would go for a c36, it is one of the most pure amg cars out of the bunch. and with its tuned na 6 sounds nice, but prolly doesnt sound as good as the v8.
performance is ment to be similar between the 2 cars.
my advice go for like a 97 c36.

Based on the now demised C-class generation introduced in 1995, the C36 AMG was the first automobile modified by an outside firm and sold officially as a Mercedes. Like other AMG cars, the C36 was a limited production model, only 200 examples were imported to North America until production halted in 1998. The 4 valves/cyl, inline six engine is based on the unit found in the C280, but with a 1.1 mm increase in bore diameter and a huge 18.9 mm increase in stroke length. The compression is also slightly stepped up to 10.5:1 while the electronics have been recalibrated, more agressive camshafts have been fitted and a freer-flowing exhaust bolted on. The result is 276 horsepower at 5750 rpm and 284 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm, 82 more horsepower than the C280 and 36 more than the BMW M3.

Base Price, USD 51,925 Engine Type dohc 24-valve I6
Powertrain Layout front engine/rwd Displacement, cc 3606

Thanks guys when I find one i think i will go for the C36 due to the low production run I like the idea of having a rare car. I sometimes see a C43 but have never seen a C36 in person and the closested one i have found to me is 189mi away at Langley AFB, VA. It is one of 16 that are forsale on autotrader.com for any distance and the guy wants $13k for it with 75,000 miles. Now all i have to do is sell my 300sdl and my 560 sel. I would love to keep them but I still live at home (only 20) and mom says to get another got to get rid of two cars b4 i buy another cause i got 4 right now. Bad thing is i know i will miss that big car feeling that i love not to mention the style of the w126 (which i voted the Best S-class)!
