Default C300 Rear Spoiler

So I want to put a rear spoiler on my 2008 C300 Sport. I called the dealership today and got a quote of $689.00 and that comes painted, but not installed.

Is this something that I could install myself? Has anyone installed one? As I understand it (and I may be wrong) it just sticks on to the trunk lid.

The mbonlineparts.com has the spoiler for $310.00, but thats not painted. I dont know how much the dealership would charge to paint it. I have not asked them yet.

My big concern right now is the installation............is it easy?

Thanks,
John

It glues on with 3M double sided body tape. Should come with the tape installed.

You MUST remove the wax from the areas the tape will stick to, and the metal should be warm. You can buy a wax remover at an auto paint supply house.

You can do it all yourself, other than the painting. It does not need to go to the dealer to paint - any paint/body shop can do it. They can even put it on for you.

Check ebay - I bought spoilers for my E430 and C280 for less than 100 bucks. The one for the C280 was already back, so I did not even have to paint it.

before pulling the adhesive covering off of the spoiler, set the spoiler on the car where you want it, and use masking tape to mark the edges, so when you do expose the adhesive to set the spoiler on, you'll get it straight.

Thanks for the info..........I checked ebay like you said and it seems like I can get one for about $100 like you said.

Now I just need to find out what a body shop would charge to paint it.
Even if they charge $100 bucks to paint it, its worth it compared to $689 to order it from the dealership........thats crazy!!

I went to the dealership tonight to look at some C300's with the spoiler and took some pictures so I could see exactly how to put it on. I looked at the window sticker to see how much they charged for the spoiler from the factory and its only $300.

How the dealership can charge more than double that is beyond me.........its robbery!

Thanks again for your input.
