Default c240 4 matic wagon tail gate lock

I have a 2003 c240 4 matic wagon and the tail gate lock unlocks sometimes and not other times...It's intermittent and seems to, for no reason, start working then the next minute it won't open...does anyone know where I should start? And how can the tail gate be opened if the remote won't unlock it? Please advise.

Thank you,

Randy

first off, is the pull handle for the rear tailgate handle pulled? they stick and stay in the pulled handle postion and you need to push the relaease handle back to rest position . check that first. could be a bad latch assembly but check the handle first. also the striker might need to be adjusted.

I checked the handle and it does not appear to be sticking. It opens with the outside temperature is hot. There is no solenoid noise when the tailgate opens or doesn't. If it's below say 25c the handle latch when depressed to open will not release the lock to open the tailgate. When it's in the hot sun..no problem. I suppose I'm going to have to take it to the dealer and hope I don't get hosed.

Thanks
