I'm thinkin of buyin a 2002 c240, but i have a friend that told me that the C class mercedes tend to have frequent problems. is that true? im thinkin that my friend and friends are just haters. or maybe they want me to get somethin more expensive and nicer so they can ride with me. well either way for those of u who own a C class or a c240 to be exact have u experience a lot of problems with your car?

From model year 2001 up the C and some E classes had a mirage of trouble, mostly electrical. Also the M class had even more. Ashtrays falling out, sunvisor falling off. By 04 they had most of the electrical gremlins fixed. But, IMHO the 94 to 00 C Class were the best C Class's made. I have a 99 C280 and have had very little trouble, a MAS a O2 sensor. The biggest problem I had is batteries, I am on my third. This problem is partially my fault I don't drive the car enough. Mercedes like to driven and driven a higher speeds. To bad American drivers are the worst in the world. Perhaps if they weren't we would have an autobahn also.

I have an '01 C240. I bought it used under the wholesale blue book price. I have driven the heck out of it (78k miles). Aside from a broken trunk latch, no problems with the car. I think the bad raps on the car will enable you to get a pretty decent used car at a good price.

My wife and I bought an 02 C-240 last August, and have put about 3500 miles on it so far. We bought it with 33000 miles, and the owner sold it due to his lease being up and he bought a porche boxter. Our short list of problems are not unique to this car, but apply to any car. The front brakes needed to be changed at 34,000 miles. I am told this is common. The light for the license plate went out, needed new bulb. The car would not start or turn over one day, and that was because the floor mat got lodged under the clutch and restricted a sensor. It was all minor stuff, and the car is a blast to drive and very comfortable. I do believe that people shy away from these due to bad press, but is should help you in getting a lower price. The maintenance and oil is more expensive, but that is like driving a 4x4 and complaining about the gas mileage. It goes with the territory. Hope this helps.

My 05 C320 has had pretty well the same things go wrong... Licence plate light went out (its a known glitch that the dealer fixed right away), one of the power windows quit working (they fixed that in half a day), and the brakes need to be done... IMO VERY premature wear out! My car has about 20k miles and already needs new pads and rotors!?!? Oh well, its a great car and alot more problem free than my Cadillac CTS.
