I recently bought a 2002 C230K with 60K miles on it and it gives me 30 mpg on freeway. I drive 24 miles (one way)to work and 23 of them are on highway, mostly at 70 mph. When I start the car, the display shows 15 mpg and by the time I reach work it is between 29 - 31 mpg depending on how I drive. The highest I got was 32 mpg (on display) and this is from two weeks of owning the car. Not sure if the Avg. mileage reading on the display is accurate.

I had the same mileage problem... BMW's quality control has become a disaster since they decided to start producing cars outside of Germany. I myself always drove BMW, mainly sedans 325,525 and 2002, when the 2002 came out, I was in the market for a 4WD, the BMW 2002 was a very appealing vehicle. Ten months later I traded the sucker on a new Lexus RX330 and took a belting on the re-sale.

In the ten months I owned the vehicle there was roughly 9 warranty repairs done mostly in its BMW 2002 parts. Problems ranged from car stalling on the freeway for no apparent reason, and unable to start. On one occasion whilst we where on our way to dinner with friends.

Gearbox replaced once, driver side electric window failing, during a storm, interior falling apart, battery going dead, this list goes on. I travel 40,000km per annum for work and it got to the point that I did not feel confident that the X5 would complete the trip, without requiring a tow, to a repair center and in lots of cases I would be in remote areas, where there would be no BMW dealership, so I would use my wifes car instead. Quite despressing actually...

My gas milage 28-29 on hiway, record 31.5 but I did only ones, never close for that. but 28-29 with 75 MPH I have frequently. Brakepads life short, need to change rotor under 50 Kmiles. Most problem fixed under warranty, alternator, rear differential seal, turn signal in both direction. Nice car, we like it.

02 C230K 6-spd- 34 mpg @ 75 mph on 850 mile trip, 29 mpg @ 85 mph on same trip. Typically around town first shows about 14 mpg and average is 19 mpg. Very happy with autombile.

I have a 2006 C230 sport sedan and my gas mileage is crap. 2oo miles city driving on a single tank. 330 miles hwy on a single tank. I know of a guys F250 that get better gas mileage than I do.

Fascinating all right. This week I took a 150 mile round trip freeway drive. Even with some S. CA traffic I saw about 27 MPG. I have never driven the car in any circumstances at not seen 20 MPG minimum.

I did own a '03 C230, 1.8 L, 6-speedfor a while and my biggest beef with the car was that the e-brake was foot operated, not a hand brake. The half-moon cluster seemed very much out of place on that car as well ( although they put in a much better one starting in '05 I believe ). What I loved about that car was the panoramic sunroof. It made the car seem much larger and made it more airy than it really was. The fuel mileage from the little 1.8 was fantastic as long as you kept your foot out of the supercharger. If you did step on it, the power was nice but it did gulp that premium gas when you were lead-footing it.
The only trouble I had with the car was when it was about 2 months old. It stalled at a stop light and took about 2 minutes to restart. The fuel pump was replaced under warranty.

I have an 04 C230 Sports Coupe.

--Mass Airflow Sensor went out @ 80K.
--The silver plastic frame around the shifter cracked just by kicking it from N to D.
--The platic panels are a pain in the ***.

I think what sucks the most about this littlehatch is the fact that the Engine is a 1.8 and not a 2.3 as the badge suggests. The supercharger is too big for the little Kompressor, and I find myself experiencing what feels like a hard turbo-lag.
The frame is extremely heavy considering the size of the car, and the back end is one of the ugliest and un-appealing designs Mercedes has produced.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my Kompressor.

But I've had my eye out for something with more attitude. The Kompressor looks too feminine for me, and even though I AM a girl.....I want something alittle morestreamline.
