C230 Kompressor...new rotors after 40K miles?
I was told that with Mercedes it's usual to replace rotors every other brake pad change. due to a softer metal being used.
as opposed to American cars (the ones i've owned I've never had to REPLACE brake rotors...and only had to have them turned (lathe) on a few occasions)

Never heard of this! I would have mine turned every two or three pad changes and I think only once have I replaced them, and this on my beloved old 300SD which I took to 240,000 miles before handing it off to the next lucky driver...

RE: C230 Kompressor...new rotors after 40K miles?
i have an '02 C230 Kompressor BTW. my dad had a '75 240D for 400K miles, i don't remember him complaining about frequent rotor replacement.
Anyway, it's what the dealership told me. and im a bit suspicious about it. I took it in for its first 'B' level service (thorough) $500 for that alone. I did complain that i had a steady brake squeal until i drove for like 30 minutes. maybe they're just making SURE they cure that issue?

Not unusual to replace rotors on these things.....my C230 and every other one I've seen does the same thing. The rotors are
meant to wear with the pads together for "superior braking", as my dealer told me. BMW was the same thing when I had one.
Many dealerships won't replace just the pads without the rotors too. And many of them won't turn the worn rotors. Fortunately,
if you shop around, they aren't too expensive. Just an arm, not an arm and a leg as well. Of course, the dealer price for a brake
job will be high. The brake squeal is probably the pads, not the rotors. Probably time for pads and rotors I hate to say.
