Default C230 K stalls when cold

Hi,

I have a new C230 Kompressor. In the morning when the engine is cold the car stalls at low rpms. It does not lose power but spudders (shakes terribly) unless you push the pedal and take it to higher rpms. Has anybody had such a problem? What might be the solution?

Thank you

does this have to be done when the car is cold? Will the service do it for me? What will be shown by the scanner?

Thanks,
Kaan

hi again,

this stalling problem did not happen in the first days of the car. Can it be related to the fact the engine is not getting warm enough? I drive it very short distance everyday. I drive 10 miles everyday 5 miles each way.

Thanks,

I bought my 2004.5 C230K Sedan in April...worked just fine with its first tank of gas (provided by dealership), but after I filled it up with premium (91 octanes) it started stalling in the morning and it would even completely die on me after the first start....second start would be just fine...I took it to the MB dealership and they kept it for two days running all kinds of tests...Their diagnosis was that it was gasoline...they told me not to use premium (even tough manual clearly recommends 91 octanes or more), but middle grade (89 octanes) instead...I started using 89 octanes and problem has not occured ever since (8 months)...I hope this helps some...

that's because the engine control module has already adapted the ignition on lower octane fuel. if we will reset the adaptation, the problem is still there.

best way is to change the settings on ignition and enrichment stage.

using 89 is too low i think. i always recommend 97 on my customers.

hmm can the service change the settings of ignition and enrichment stage? or how can we change these settings?

By the way the octane measurements we use is different I guess. In US there are 89, 91 and 93. 93 is the highest. In europe the lowest octane that you can find is 95. There should be a difference in the octane measurements.

A turbocharged or supercharged engine needs premium grade gas to run at peak performance because of the increased compression ratio. If the computer has been reprogrammed (de-tuned), as sleepwalker suggests, it can run on mid or regular grade at the cost of performance. But even then, premium shouldn't cause stalling.

since it was related with fuel, i think we are discussing the right direction.

the ignition timing to burn the fuel can be change by setting the adaption on the engine control unit. sadly, we need to use Star Diagnosis in doing this under "control module adaptation" menu.

the choices are: 89ron, 91ron, 93ron, etc.
you can input the most available fuel in your area.

i always set my customer's car to 93ron and ask them to use 97 so it will not trigger the "check engine" light often because of knocking, etc. but then, i have to enrich the injection time at "stage 1" to neutralize the leaning. (of course i don't inform them about these changes... sometimes i have to protect myself).
