This car has had this problem since we have it, when it had about 70k Mi. It has now 90K Mi and the problem is still there, the same.
First, when the car is cold and we start it up and take off right away, very often, it remains in second and cannot shift any higher, even when waiting long enough to warm up the engine while driving. The only way to stop this, is to stop the car, turn the engine off and back on, then and only then this problem goes completely away.
The other problem is that on an upward sloping road, when taking off, the car jurks as it shifts from 1 to 2 gear. Only if taking off really slowly and proceeding very slowly in acceleration does it not jurk. This problem happens mostly on an upward slope, not nearly so much on a horizontal road.
Any idea what could cause this and what the repairs may entail?
