I have a 1996 C220D. Its a lovely car that's never given me any trouble, up to now ! I hadn't used it for a while, so I disconnected the battery and gave it a decent charge before reconnecting up again some 12 hours later. The car would not then start ! Logic would say it was something I did when I disconnected the battery but I can't see how this can be the case. All 3 keys, including the credit card size emergency key lock and unlock the doors fine so I don't think its an immobilizer fault ! I checked the fuel side of things and unscrewed the filter, then turned the engine over a few times, but no fuel comes out and the filter is nearly empty. When I turn the key there is a click from the engine bay, so presumably the fuel relay is ok. I'm dreading that it could be the pump itself, but any ideas what else could be wrong please.
