Default c200 111.945 misfiring when cold

Hi,

I have owned some mb over the years and currently own one c200 ´97 with 111.945 engine and a e200 ´98 111.942 engine. Both are automatic and about 20000 km.

The thing is that both cars are experiencing the same issue: they lack power when cold and misfiring. The first 5 minutes or so they dont behave well at all... but then, on the same spot, they start working perfect and no problems whatsoever.

I had my indiemechanic look and listen to the e200 and he was quite sure that it was the timing chain that needed changing, or even better, all parts along with it. At that time, there was no codes to be read out.

Now to my questions; since the timing chain is supposed to be long lasting, what experience do people have with these engines and timing chains? Is it common to have them changed or am I just haunted with this issue?
Can anyone share my experience with bad running when cold and how was that solved, if solved?

Today I will spray the engine with start-gas in search for vaccum-leaks and after that I will check ignition-timing on cold engine.

Any tips would be appreciated,

Henrik
