Default RE: BAS/ASR light

today I went to the dealership and bought a brake pedal switch (around $30.00) and I switched it and my BAS/ASR light is gone (took about an hour). the steps I took are right here in this link at the bottom. (remember the link is for a ML model) yours might be a little different like mine was but you will get the idea.

Sleepwalker-

My MB mechanic replaced what appeared to be a damaged wheel speed sensor and the BAS/ESP light still came on. Finally had to go the dealer route at the suggestion/insistence of my mechanic. The dealer diagnosed it as the lateral sensor and it was about $450 parts/labor to replace. Hopefully, that little bugger won't come on again. If it does, I'm liable to just pull the light bulb from the instrument panel to end it all! [:@]

So, the real culprit was the lateral acceleration sensor which was causing the intermitent lighting of teh BAS/ESP lamp. $467 to diagnose and fix including parts. best thing is that the lamp doesn't come on any more!

Hi Guys,

Whenever i start my engine , the brake light (not the parking) is permanently on , including the brake light behind the rear windshield. Can anyone please telll me why is this happening ? and any solutions ?

It may be just a matter of adjusting the position of the switch.
Looks like your switch actuator is in permanent contact with the brake pedal.
Try moving it a little so that the actuator contacts the pedal only when you apply the breaks.

the stop lamp switch has some adjustment built in... sounds like the rod got pushed all the way in before installation? depress the brake pedal and pull the switch all the way out, it should click eight or nine times. then let the pedal out slowly, should adjust properly.
