Hi everybody,
Since I got the car (98 C230) back on the road early Jan., it won't let me downshift it manually. The shifter won't go left at all when I pull it.
The car has been resting for a couple of months and I disconnected the battery for a couple of days.
Is there a locking system I can unlock myself? I got the windows and radio to work correctly again but the tranny I can't figure out [sm=smiley25.gif] .
Thanks.

automatic transmission?
yes, you can manualy shift it by inserting a pen on that small area on the shift gate. (it has a cover which gives way when you push it).

Thanks Sleepwalker.
I did try to stick a pen in different areas of the gate but with no results. It is an automatic transmission and it never did that before. I am convinced that it is not just stiffness because it works fine from park to reverse to neutral and to D. There is something preventing it to go left in the gate (and it is not the gate) to 4th.
If there is something I can release by inserting a pen in the gate, will it release it permanently? How did it happen (battery off the car for 2 days???)? What position should the shifter be and where should I insert the pen to release the mechanism?
Thanks for the advice.
