Default Audio 10 upgrade

I have an '01 C240 with the standard OEM cassette player. I was interested in upgrading the stereo system. I would like to keep the MB factory look and would hate to put an after market stereo in the car. I have seen several MB OEM "Audio 10" units available on EBay. Would the Audio 10 unit provide a significant improvement in the sound quality? Any help would be appreciated, thanks

I don't know if the Audio 10 CD unit will improve sound, but I do know that comand gives some improvement... I have heard from others who upgraded to comand, that the sound in the car sounds better afterwards.

greetingz,

Just one thing to remember when dealing with factory radio upgrades. The majority of the time the only difference in head units from the factory is their external functions (i.e. cd changer control, nav, etc...) almost all of the factory radios share the same sound quality characteristics. Just my $0.02 here but if you want to improve sound quality and retain the stock radio, pickup the JL Audio Clean Sweep DSP and SSI modules. They can be had for $300 and $110 respectively. In fact, you'll pay more in labor getting them installed because of the complexity. Then pickup a quality 4 channel amplifier and quality interior speakers. That is realistically the only way you're going to achieve true appreciable sound quality changes. the nice thing about the Clean Sweep is that it also has an Auxiliary Input so you can connect an iPod or other MP3 player and retain your factory controls.
