'96-C280 Problem removing rotor

I am having trouble removing the old rotor.
The mount that holds the brake caliper and pads (see #2 in the pic attached - is this called the brake mount?) combined with the black cap (see #1 in the pic attached - what's the cap called?) don't allow me to get the angle needed to get the rotor off.
On the passenger side, I was finally able to remove the mount, but it was a ton of work and I don't even want to think about what I did to the alignment. On the driver's side, the two bolts that hold the "brake mount" in place just won't budge.
So, my question is this: Is there a way to remove that black cap (again, #1 in the pic) so that the rotor will come off - and the new one will go on - while leaving the "brake mount" in place?
Thanks in advance for your help - any input appreciated!

OK. I'll give it a try. I appreciate the guidance!
