5 Speed Vs 4 Speed: Advantages?

Apparently there seems to be a lack of understanding among members or lack of involvement. But from what I know is that 4 speed automatics change gears less smoothly. 5 speed automatics change gears more smoothly due the the gears being more evenly spaced among the speeds traveled in a car. Today's Mercedes cars have seven speed automatics now which far surpass the 4 or 5 speed automatics. If you go for a 4 speed, you might save some money, but the transmission will definitely have you feel the difference when engine gears change. A five speed will have an engine run with less rounds per minute (rpm) as well as higher speeds are achieved.

i would agree. see if you can find out what the topgear ratio is in the both transmisions. i bet the 5 speed will turn lower rpms at freeway speeds; this usually means better mileage (not always), and a smoother, quieterride. resale value will be higher too, if that matters to you.
