Default 2002 C240 problem (esp)

Hi. My 2002 c240 just broke down on me. Luckily, I was close to home. Conducting a search, I came across this forum hoping for some help. The car basically just stalled on me. It would no longer accelerate, but the instrument panel, AC, etc. work fine. I recieved an error stating something to the effect of " stability control, ESP, visit workshop." After turning it back on about 30min later, it worked fine on the short ride home. Im tentative to commute to work in fear of it stalling on the expressway. The phone rep told me that that error shouldnt cause the car to stall. It has something to do with the brake system. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Its just out of warranty and I dont feel like shelling out an arm and a leg to fix a problem that might have been an aberration. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i have the feeling that it was the throttle valve which malfunctions. the ESP can control it overiding your pedal position.

take it to the dealer and read the fault. tell us the fault code and we can help explain.

Thanks for the reply. I actually think I just ran out of gas and the electronics went a little wacky. Ive subsequently filled the tank, and drove it around for 15min or so. It ran just fine and the error message is gone. With starting a new business, im way too broke to be shelling out cash for this car. With gas prices rising, im even thinking about trading it in and getting a Civic If I do, ill miss my Benz (until I can afford a new one.)
