2001 C320 ALTERNATOR
BATTERY WAS BAD SO I REPLACE IT.
ALTERNATOR WENT BAD I GUESS BECAUSE OF THE BAD BATTERY,I HAD IT TESTED SO IT BEING REBUILD.
MY QUESTION IS WHY WAS THERE NOT A ERROR CODE DISPLAYED .
I HAD A ALTERNATOR WENT ABOUT 4 YEARS AGO & A CODE CAME AS BAD BATT & ALTER.
THIS TIME NOTHING, DOES IT HAVE TO BE COMEPLETY BAD BEFORE A CODE TO BE SHOWN?
ANY HELP THANKS

Ike> Your battery didn't cause your alternator to fail. It could have been the other way around though. A bad alternator may
not be able to supply the battery in your car with enough voltage (around 14 to 14.2 volts) when the car is running to keep the battery charged at the proper rate. And then the battery goes south without the alternator feeding it what it needs. My battery recently failed and I had no check engine light or any code. I even checked the voltage at the battery which was good and so was my alternator. But the battery, internally, was bad.
ALWAYS check your alternator before replacing a battery. Just hook a multimeter or a volt meter to the battery and start the car.
Look at the voltage at the terminals. Rev the engine up slowly to about 2,000 rpms on the tach. Is it 12V or under? ALTERNATOR SHOT! With a properly working alternator, the voltage with the rpm's around 2,000 should be 14 to 14 point something going into the battery.
