2000 C230 Oil Change Questions
I have a 2000 MBenz C230 Kompressor and need some feedback. The oil was changed in early Decmeber 2007 and I have only put 1,200 miles (roughly 200 per month with local driving) on the vehicle. Do I need to change the oil because of the amount of time (6 months) since the last oil change was done?

RE: 2000 C230 Oil Change Questions
In my opinion, no. The oil is fine.
Today's synthetics aren't your father's old oils.
The old "3 months or 3,000 miles, whichever comes first, isn't true anymore with today's synthetic oils.
Thank goodness...it would REALLY be pricey then!

RE: 2000 C230 Oil Change Questions
It depends on the type of driving you do, PERIOD THE END!!!
If your driving is in town, stop and go, then I would not go more than 3000 miles between changes as this sort of driving is considered "SEVERE DUTY". The reason for this is the fact that the oil goes through many more heating/cooling cycles than it does with someone who does the majority of their driving in the long distance-high speed mode. If oil does not have sufficient time to heat up to operating temperature, condensation occurs which forms corrosive acids in the oil and the lifeblood of the engine becomes a corrosive agent that even the most sophisticated filter cannot filter out. Said corrosion attacks the bearing surfaces as well as any polished/machined surfaces such as cam lobes and crankshafts. Quality is obviously importaint to you, otherwise you would have bought something far less expensive with all the bull**** bells and whistles instead of a "motorcar of substance". Don't be fooled by the "lifetime fill bull****" as it will cost you money down the road. YOU CAN NEVER HURT A CAR BY CHANGING THE FLUIDS MORE OFTEN THAN RECOMMENDED BY THE FACTORY!!!
I drive a C 280 4-matic which I am having the transmission serviced at 37,000 miles. I drive mostly highway miles-(90 interstate miles per day) and I change the oil every 7500 miles. When I hit 150K, my car will still be running well while those who "saved money" on fluid changes will have relegated their cars to the junk yard.

Will
