Default '04 C230: Oil in Engine Harness, Blown Vent Hose, and Vacuum Pump Leak

Hello,My '04 C230 Kompressor only has 40K on it, but a few month ago all kinds of problems began.

It started with the vent hose which burst. I took it to my MB dealer service center, they tell me there was a recent recall issued againstmy car to replace the vent hose, so they will fix it for free. So far so good.

I get it back, and 2 days later the check engine light comes back on. I notice I am low on oil. I bring the car back. They say I have oil througout my engine harness so they have to replace it along with a bunch of other parts (to clean everything up I guess) to the tune of $2.5K. I ask how this problem happened on a car with only 40K. They say it is not related to anything that happened 2 days earlier with the vent hose but that the whole thing was somehow triggered by the failure of an oxygen sensor. I still do not understand but I pay up hoping this is the end of major problems for a while.

I drove the car for another 2monthsbefore springing anoil leak. I bringit in and they say it's the vacuum pump leaking oil, and so now that had to be replaced.

Right now everything is supposedly fixed, but I am very nervous about keeping this car. I've never owned a car with so many problems at only 40K miles.

Can anyone share their advice, knowlege or experience with this car?

Thanks!

Read your manuals, I think oxygen sensors may be covered by a longer warranty than other stuff because it is emissions related (100k miles or something like that). If that is the case and the $2500 problem was caused by failing 02 sensor (according to them), maybe it should've been warranty item. I know that's what I'd say if I was out $2500.I am not sure on this car but some cars have vent hoses which may well have oil blowby in them in addition to air. If that is the case and it burst, maybe that is what caused the wiring harness to get oil on it. Frankly I am having trouble seeing how a failing 02 sensor could cause an oil leak. That would be a really, reallystupid design since it is not uncommon for 02 sensor to go bad after a lot of miles. Most cars can run even if you cut the wire to the 02 sensor (they go into a "limp home" mode that reduces performance but you can still drive the car). I would go on mercedesshopforum.com and post there - they have some mercedes mechanics on there who may confirm (or refute) what I'm suggesting. I would also go over the head of the person you are dealing with and try to talk to a regional service rep, after you collect some more info.

warranty is 4 years/50k miles, whichever comes first, and she has an '04 (which they started selling in mid 2003) and she appears to be paying out of pocket so I assume it expired before she had these problems. that's why I said to talk to the regional guy, he may do goodwill repair because of these expensive things right after wty. expired.

look out for the heater box, they have a problem of striping the gears in them and will need replacing, its a big job that involves removing the center console and dash assembly and usally takes a full day or even two days to complete depending on who does the job.

I am new to this site,
I was reading about your c class. The problem you have with oil in your harness, comes from the camshaft adjusters. the oil pressure gets by the seals in the adjusters, and is forced thru the harness. If you check your records, you will probably find that the adjusters were replaced at the time they did the harness. The problem is that the oil will get into other components, O2 sensers, engine control module, air mass meter, etc.
