I have an 02 C240 that keeps giving me the fault code of left licence plate light not working. It has been to the dealer several times, and they claim to fix it. It will come on in the morning when the wife drives to work and will be off when she comes home. The light is out when the message is on, and it works when the message is gone. I tried a new bulb, and all the connections look clean and free of corrosion. Is there a possible location where this particular wire may be pinched or damaged to the point where it will work sometimes, and fail at others. Not really wanting to pay the dealer to do an incomplete job again. Thanks.

 

I've had similar problem with my 2001 C240. The dealer had to change an electric or electronic componenet that controled the lights. I had tried changing the bulbs which were fine and the problem was intermittent until they changed the control unit for the lights. Sorry, don't have much more technical detail about it.

 

If you continue to have problems after changing the bulb, then the harness may be bad.
