Default Clunking noise in gas tank. Help !!!!!

I have a 2004 SL55. There is a very prominent clunking noise coming from the gas tank. The sound is evident when I start or stop. As the fuel swishes around this nose begins and stops when the fuel motion stops. Any remedies I can do myself? Thanks to any help in advance.

I've ran into this prob before ...there's metal separators in your tank that serves the purpose of sound damping an antisplash. One has came loose an is shifting with the fuel wave.Your gonna need a fuel tank. There isn't really a bandaid repair for this.....An its a very annoying sound too

Anything new on this subject?

Our 2004 SL55 just developed the same problem with the annoying clunking sound from the gas tank. The dealer said it will require a new gas tank. Estimate to replace tank, labor, and tax = $4570.

I think the sound has to do with the the air pressure in your gas tank.
