My '02 CLK55 Cab does not make the 'beep' or chirp sound when locking or unlocking the car. My wife's CLK350 Cab makes one chirp for lock and three for unlock and most other MBs I have seen do... but mine does not. Is there a 'setting' to select whether to beep (chirp) or not to beep? Or do I have a hardware problem?

you most likely will need a new alarm siren/horn located in the rf wheel well liner. very common issue.also your alarm will not sound either.
