So here is the story,

I have had my 1992 Mercedes 190 E 2.6L for about 2.5 years now and until now it has had almost no problems. Just this fall I moved to go to college and I left my car at home because i did not need it. It sat in the driveway at my parents place for about 3 months and now it will not start. i thought it might be either simply out of gas or the battery might be dead but i charged the battery and filled the gas tank and it still wont turn over. The starter still sounds strong so Im thinking that either im not getting spark for some reason, or my fuel pump isnt delivering fuel to my engine. I've tried spraying starting fluid into the intake but that did not help AT ALL. I dont have the money to take it into my local Benz specialist, but i could probably figure out how to repair what needs to be fixed if i could just pinpoint the problem. Any suggestions on how to test to see whats going on or about what i should do in general? Im starting to become so frustrated with it i just want to say hell with it and scrap it for what its worth to pick'n pull.

 

If you sprayed ether in the intake, and it did not fire, then it is most likely an ignition problem. I would start by checking wiring - sitting for a few years usually ends up with mice chewing wires. Not sure where you Crank Position Sensor (cps) is, but on most of my cars, it is at the back of the engine. Start with it. Check all the wiring. Unplug and replug every connection - you may have some corrosion going on. By unplugging and replugging a few times, if there is corrosion, the action of the movement often cleans the corrosion.

You also have a OVP relay. Not sure where it is on your car, but it is device that has one or two fuses on top of it, under a clear or red colored top. Check those fuses. If you attempted to jump the car with a dead battery, you may have blown the fuse(s).
