Likely your problem is water into the change speed lever CSL mechanism.
This usually occurs due to spilt drinks in the area of the console around the CSL.
Since your water was "clean" i.e. rain you just maybe lucky that things sort themselves out once everything is dry. This may take some considerable time dependent on exactly where / how much water has penetrated the module / wiring.
Unfortunately attempting to use the vehicle (i.e. ignition ON) in the presence of water / moisture can kill the electronic module due to "shorts".
Likely you will need a new CSL module.
