Default Type of Oil and Brakes

August 16, 2008

Hi everyone,

I own a 2005 C230 Kompressor Sports Coupe and the computer (dash) is telling me that I have brake wear. It has 70,000 km and has been summer driven only.

Question #1: Can I take it into a Midas as opposed to the dealership to save on cost? Any idea as to what this will cost?

Also, the computer has indicated that I need "one wrench" service in 400 km and that I need to also add one litre of oil the next time I get gas.

Question #2: How do I find out what type of oil the car takes? What type of oil should I add?

Question #3: For the one wrench indicator - does this mean that I have to take it into the dealership? How much will this cost and what is involved in this procedure?

Thank you for your help!

You can get brakes anywhere, but of course shops vary in their workmanship and honesty.
Hopefully you can find a mechanic by referral from a friend who can vouch for fair service, because there are plenty of idiots out there claiming they can work on Mercedes.

The service alarms are your choice. If re-sale or warrantyis a top priority then service records are important, but I have never taken my cars for the services, and I have not had any problems because I always fix any problems when they occur, rather than waiting for a light to tell me. The owner's manuals on these cars are very good and will tell you everything you need to know.
