Hey everybody, new to this particular forum, but old school on a bunch of others.

I have a problem, and need help from my fellow MB people. I drive a 1998 S320 and have sopme sort of a transmission problem.My car, all of a sudden, stopped going into second gear. I was driving the whole day, and the car was doing fine, but once I started it up after leaving my office, the car wouldn't go anywhere from first gear.

I am worried its the entire transmission, but could it be possibly something smaller? Was there a common transmission problem with the 1998 S320 (w140)?

Also, please advise if anybody knows any good MB mechanics for this job in the NJ area. I am hesitant to go to a dealership, because of the costs associated with them.
