Default Timing Chain Guide Replacement

Hi, new to this forum, and new owner of 87 560SEL w/128K miles. Have been getting wise to the need to get timing chain and guides replaced before I have a repair bill that is larger than what I paid for this car. I am all about doing it myself, and having no manual info (yet), can anyone direct me to any procedural tips out there that would smooth the way? From what I've seen so far, it might be tricky, but fairly straightforward.

Need to troubleshoot rear suspension, it has leveling system and accumulators, etc. and I want to check this all out before buying rear suspension components I don't need, but right now there is no ride to speak of in the back - Any simple things to check here - fluid, fuses, etc.?

Generally very happy with the car, it is in great shape.

Appreciate anyones input, nice to be part of your crowd.

Sleepwalker- I can't really answer you about the hydropneumatic system - I'm just not familiar enough with it yet- I'd like to determine if it is working properly if possible, and ensure that is not the issue rather than worn out shocks- any suggestions?

thanks for the pages on timing guides, I can work with that. ( I am a machine design engineer and a tool and die-maker by trainiing, so no problem making necessary tools)

Much appreciated.

to start with the hydropneumatic suspension....

do you feel any loud noise on bumpy road?

level too low?

does it go up or down by itself by wide margin?

does it go down when parking the car for 1 night?

if problem doesn't exist, just check for leaks and any visible worn out parts which concerns safety.

SW'r- No loud noises on bumpy roads, and no obvious external leaks. Don't know about level yet (not enough time to "play" with everything I want to at present).
I will be out of touch for a week or so, I'll fill you in when I get back.
Thanks for your help.

I usually do all my own work on my cars too but I swear there is just not much I can do to my MB. It is too complicated and you need so many specialized tools. It will likely cost you $1500 to $2000.
