Terrible Gas Mileage!

On my 2006 C230. 12 mi/gallon (city), 18 mi/gallon (hwy). Has anyone else had this type of mileage? I've brought it into the dealer about three times. They say the same thing - nothing wrong with it. Possibly the fact that I drive it short distances, and turn off the engine. Then start it again. Thoughts?

well your not the first to complain about that, try putting a few more pounds of air in tires maybe go up to 35psi or even up to 40, also less weight in trunk helps too 1 MPG loss per 100 pounds. also change engine air cleaners more frequently. thats all i can offer to you.

One other thing i thought of which some people dont really agree but use better gas, higher octane burns more efficiently and is recommended by Benz, i get a few more miles out of my cars just from going up from 87 to 89 octane, the car runs smoother and just seems to perform better, you dont have to press the gas as hard to get going.

Thanks Chassis. Unfortunately, I DO already use the highest octane of gas (always have), and I don't keep anything in my trunk. I'm taking it to the dealer today, leaving it, getting a loaner. They're going to have their sr. technician take it on an "extended" drive (about 50 miles or so). I hope he gets what I do! I filled it up on Friday night, drove it about 6 miles. Drove it about 15 miles the next morning, and by noon I was down 1/4 of a tank! It's just not right. And with gas prices now.....YIKES!
