Suspension Bushings
For the past couple of months, when I drive bumpy roads, the rear suspension on my car makes a lot of noise, especially when you hit a goog bump. I have read on several website and in a few magazines, one dedicated to Mercedes Benz vehicle. It is published in the UK. All have said the weak link in the C, E and S class are the suspension bushings and it is not unusual for bushings to go bad at less then 50K miles? I've check the shocks and they seem to be ok, but looking at the bushings tells me nothing. How can you tell if the bushings are worn? Or should I be looking at other suspension components?
Thanks!

RE: Suspension Bushings
Very nice car. I just read the road test of the latest Ford Mustang based Cobra, fast cars and handle well also. One of the shining moments of my life was when I was 17 or 18, I bought a Austin Healy, 3000. I had it in for service at the dealership. the salesman who sold me a car had an Shelby based AC Cobra. He took me for a ride, one ride I'll never forget, even after 40 years.
IF YOU EVER WANT TO SELL THE COBRA CAN YOU LET ME HAVE FIRST SHOT AT IT?
THANKS!

RE: Suspension Bushings
Good New on rear end noise. I had my car at a local restoration/detailing shop. Last year I posted about a rust situation with both sides of my car at the rear quarter panels, where then bend (seam) where the rear bumper covers fits. When they fixed the rust, which was due to improper sealant applied at the factory. The owner even wrote an letter and had it notarized to MBUSA and never received a response. I contacted the dealer and MBUSA, both of whom told to take a hike, in so many words. I had the rust fixed the tech reapplied the sealant properly. I also asked the owner to check and see if the car was hit before I had it. he wrote a letter saying no, the car is as it was when it came from the factory and has never had any accident damage. this shop is very good. they restored a bent, rusted 72 VW drophead for me back to showroom condition 7 years ago. The body work, including a right rear quarter panel, new fenders, paint and leveling the suspension. I also insiisted on lead fill instead of Bondo. Cost $2800. I also had a new cloth top made and installed for $1500 including all new wood and three layers.
Back to Benzmeister, when the shop remounted the bumper cover it was not put back on correctly and shagged. I asked them to fix it while they had the car for detailing and they of course did at no charge. NOW THE REAR END NOISE IS GONE, I am so happy I could, never mind. Must have been the cover hitting the body on the right rear side, as it was high on that side and low on the left side. Pictures are coming of the most beautiful W202 C280 on in Chicopee, Ma, soon, very soon. I can almost feel the excitement on the board, especially from Lugnut.
