If you are at all concerned with the safety, take it to the dealer! Have them do a basic diagnostic on it and they can do an actuation of the rear headrests. Failure should result in an srs lamp though. Or, put the top down and take some hard/fast turns and they should pop up again.

I have a similar problem...my headrests popped up with a loud bang when i took a hump backed bridge slightly too fast. tried resetting with the allen key down side of headrests without success, local dealer tried and failed then suggested I bring it in as they may have to take the rear seats/apart to re-set. Sounds very expensive but I can't drop the soft top as it will probably snag the headrests. Any suggestions?
