Default R500 Oil Change

I want to change my own oil on my R500 to avoid the dealer charges and because I don't want to go 13,000 miles even with Mobil 1. My question is: Do I have to remove the plate under the car to access the drain plug? Also, where is the filter located? Thanks for your help.

yes - remove the fairing under the car - held in place by four 8 mm hex head screws. Filter housing should be on left of engine compartment as you look at it. You'll need a paper filter that you will drop into the the metal housing. Use the O rings provided and small copper washer for drain pan bolt (called gasket by M-B). Tighten the top of the metal housing down to about 20-25 lbs - you will need an extender 6-9 inches - on your socket wrench. Fill with oil, then replace the fairing. Do Not forget to use the soft copper washer for the drain plug bolt.

Good luck.
