POWER STEERING NOISE

Hey,
i have a yr1998 c200....in the morning when i start the carthen i turn the steering either side i get a funny loud noise (kinda likea screech)..the idling is also a bit high. after i drive the car for like ten minutes it dissapears. what could it be?

If you're adding fluid, you've got a leak somewhere. Check around the hose fittings below the PS pump and the fittings at the steering box. You may have to remove some items to find where this fluid is going.

A screech at FULL LOCK is not unsual and can be due to a loose drive belt but the MB system is not usually prone to this.
Maybe your screech is a "swisssh" which could easily be due to low PAS fluid level.
First step check fluid level. Ensure you use the correct marks dependent upon whether hot or cold (fluid not ambient)
If OK then check condition of the drive belt and tensioner. Oil contamination o0n belt?
If it only occurs at full lock and only when COLD I would suggest you accept the noise as a "feature" of the system.
