is that alternator for diesel?

if it is, then it can be a speed sensor. (tachometer).

Ok so they gave you the WRONG altenator?

Benz_190, they NEVER have the right part for a Mercedes, at least in my experience.

I mean what are YOU supposed to do? Figure out how to adapt it electronically? Worst case you'll smoke your electrical system.

Chances are the pulley is in the wrong location as well....

The only reason I'm objecting to a NON-Mercedes alternator, is because I have already been through this case before. My advise would be to take that junk altenator back to the junkstore, and get the exact replacement part from Mercedes. It's just that the cars are difficult enough to work on without tossing mystery parts on top of the problem.

here's my prediction: The plug is not the same, the mounting hole will have to be drilled out larger, the pulley will be in the wrong location and will make the belt break in a month, and the differences electrically will cause malfuntions in your fuel management system that will drive you and mechanics crazy for years. Dude I've owned my 190 since 1990, that's 16 years; I'm trying to save you some trouble.

Hey charles, and sleepwalker and all( everyone) thanks for replying guys.. i got the alternator installed , the car runs good strong dash lights, the sound system is loud, it started and shut off with no problem.. i resolved that problem but now i have something else which this car is killing me , the temp arrow on the dash kicked up to red zone ( 120*C) today after i had my new alternator put in and drove it around all day and the car overheated for no reason, i opened the coolant reservoir cap and coolant keep coming out of the reservoir, all of it, i put coolant in and live the car running for a minute, what to see the coolant keep boling and steaming and coming out. and the temp arrow kicks at maximum ( 120*C) .. what would be on this case which is gone the thermostat or the water pump,?? if it is the thermostat anybody could show me how easy is to replace and where is it located ( any pictures really appreciated) and for teh water pump how hard is it to replace.. please elt me know

thank you

adi
