Hey I have the oppurtunity to swap a 1999 s500 engine into my 1986 420 SEL... would it fit/work? and I would probably have to change the tranny too right?? please respond asap im in a real rush... thanx

 

you are talking of fitting a M119 engine to W126 which got M116 on it.

most probably it will fit, but you need to include many things such as wiring harness and control units.

 

Sleepwalker is correct, Also, the M119 is loaded with electronics and the M116 isn't might have to do some creative rewiring??

 

yeah I had the computer/wires in mind... does anyone here think they could give me a general idea on how much installation for this might cost (both engine installation and engine/tranny install prices)

 

if you will let me do it, i will charge you $2500.

you pay for some modification such as: propeller shaft, transmission/engine mounting, shift linkage, and A/C hose adapters.

you must modify them in 10 days so as not to waste my time.

 

Sleepwalker your inexpensive, I was thinking about $4K and 5 days to modify. Seriously I think your taking on a project that could overwhelm you. IMHO the M116 is a very good engine. Also, you would loose the patina of the original. Someday your car might be worth some money, but with different engine, it value would be lower. Watch Barrett and Jackson Auctions if you get the SPEED network. OEM 70 Chargers ragtop all original down to the shaker hood $2 million. The same car with a transplanted hemi, $250K

 

Ok Sleepwalker. Were you serious when you said u would take on the project? Both the car and I are in Calgary, Alberta...how would you start the project? You didnt say anything about a tranny swap so should I assume the 420SEL tranny is capable of the powerful engine? thanx

 

they both use similar transmission.

better if you tell me both their VIN to compare.

 

I dont have the engine before me so I cant tell you the VIN on that...I can only say it is out of a 1999 S500 :s How would I find out the VIN of the transmission?
