Default oil pressure drops to zero at idle

I have a 1991 350 SDL which when at idle the oil pressure drops to zero, if i step on accelator it will slowly come back up to the top. It has been suggested that its time to replace the pump and go to heavier push rods.

any ideas?

Default oil pressure drops to zero at idle

I'm glad to know I'm not the only person concerned with oil pressure dropping at idle. I have a 1988 190E 2.6 with the same problem. When I hit the gas, the car dosen't seem to hesitate and the pressure needle comes right back up, even when revving the engine in idle. Weird. The mechanic that I bought the car from and I trust told me not to worry about it. But it does seem to be burning an abnormal amount of oil......about a quart every two months or so. It has 155,000 miles on it. It was in excellent shape when I bought it a year ago and I've taken very good care of it since. Any help on oil pressure and related items?

Zero PSI or Atmosphers at idle is not good. The cheapest place to start is the sender. If the sender is not the problem, then you probably need to replace the oil pump or the bearings. I am not sure what heavier push rods will do.
