OOPS! 1989 300E with 73,000 milesdeveloped a minor oil leak. Upon further inspection the leak source appears to be between the engine and transmission. It is crankcase oil, not transmission fluid. Sides of the engine are clean without leaks and the oil sensor is OK too. Doesn't leak for a few days after driving but a few drops appear after sitting for a few days. Any thoughts?

 

maybe the rear main? I had an 88 300E last year that leaked a little oil; i put it up for sale (not because of that). I lady I showed it to was very interested and actually offered me $2500 till i mentioned that it used a quart of oil between changes. She just couldn't cope with the idea of having to figure out how to check the oil, where to put it in, etc, etc. I forgot that not everybody is mechanically inclined and that what to me is a very insignificant thing to her was an insurmountable problem. needless to say she receinded the deal and I wound up selling it to anelectrician that did his own work like i do..
