I have a question concerning my 1980 diesel 300sd: it won't stop running when I turn off the ignition. It started doing this a week ago but now it is every time I try to turn it off. I have to open the hood and stop it by hand. I feel like I own a jalopy. How do I fix this problem?

 

vacuum to the shut off solenoid valve.

reconnect them.

 

This is probably a dumb question, but can diesels suffer from run off like a gasoline engine after you turn it off? Or is there a procedure as sleepwalker mentioned to shut them off?
