Hi Guys,

I have a 200mdl ML270 cdi The auto transmission is free reving when changing between gears 3 and 4.
And on occasions goes into limp home mode (stays in 2nd gear) but if i turn off the engine and select park, thewn start the engine again it comes out of limp mode.
had it at the Service centre and they hooked it up to the dianostic machine and couldnt find the problem, they reset computer to see if that was cause but still doing it, Now they say they would have to pull tranny apart to find the problem but they stated they have no idea what the problem could be.
The car has 100,000 Klms on it.
Im suprised that when it goes into limp mode that it doesnt stay in this mode? when i restart the engine.

has anyone else experianced the free reving between gear changes? or the limp home mode?

Hope someone has an answer or what the problem could be.
Thanks guys,
Scott

RE: ML270 CDI Transmission problem
200mdl? Is that 2000 model year?
If 2000 my+ then I do not understand why the engine ECU has not recorded at least a transient fault code.
Was it a MB Star Diagnostics tester that was used to determine the problem or some other aftermarket kit that may not interogate the ECU correctly.
If it self corrects on a restart I would be very wary before taking the trans to pieces. Doing so could well introduce other problems unless done so by someone who knows what they are doing......... and will be VERY expensive.
Sounds more like an electronics problem which should leave a tell take fault code.
I assume that you have ensured the trans oil level is correct?

RE: ML270 CDI Transmission problem
It is a 2000 mdl.
Just checked my receipt from dealer and it has attached the code read out,
transmission had 3 codes, code 110, code 146, code 147
They checked the fluid and level, both ok
And yes im also thinking its electrical and nearly fell over when he mentioned pulling trans apart.

RE: ML270 CDI Transmission problem
Strange.

The codes you gave mean the following.
P0110 = Intake Air temp Circuit problem
P0146 = O2 Sensor reading not working
P0147 = O2 Heater circuit fault

I guess it is just possible that the trans is playing up to basically stop the vehicle being driven due to major emmission issues but its a bit of a (very) long shot!

Suggest you ask the garage to validate my definitions and their data.

Stuart.
