The decal with the signature on the windshield is very significant. Once Gottlieb Daimler and Karl Benz began producing cars, Mr. Daimler was the company's self-appointed quality control inspector. Every car that passed his very rigerous inspection had the signature of Gottlieb Daimler on the windshield written with a grease pencil. That decal in the windshield of every modern-day Mercedes is a replica of Gottlieb Daimler's signature.</P>
