Default Light Control Unit

Hi All

I'm new on the list. I have a 92 124, new to me. I have been sorting some stuff out and had a very strange problem started just last night. My "light out" warning light came on, I checked and the RR tail light was out. Checked further - it was not the bulb but there was little or no power to that ciruit, fuse #3 was ok and all other lights on the circuit work. Checked up on the Haynes manual and it showed a "light control unit" that the lighting wires pass thru that also control the warning on the dash.

But this morning, the light worked again! Can someone shed some light on how this works and where this control unit is located? Is it as complicated as i think it is or is it a straight wiring from fuse to switch to light?

Thanks!
Oreo

it's just a poor contact since the problem is intermittent.

Hi Sleepwalker

I have tested only until the light panel circuit board and the fuse. The wires go underground thereafter. Can you elaborate please on where the possible connections are? It was working again last night but I want to understand more because I'm sure it will happen again.

Regards

clean those contacts on the bulbs on tail lights.

we have many of these problems which cause the lamp control module to detect false resistance.

Sleepwalker

Thanks - I cleaned them but the problem was really having no power. I tracked it until the connector butts.
