keyless entry doesnt work

keyless entry doesnt work
this is the second time this has happened to my dad's 2001 S class.
The keyless entry doesn't open the car doors, battery in the car and key is fine.
Lights in the car etc dont switch on etc
Nothing happens, like a dead dog.
Any idea whats wrong?
