Default How to refill transmission fluid

Hi all,
Recently I had to do some radiator work and lost a little transmission fluid thru the cooling lines. Does anybody happen to know how to refill the oil? How do I check the level? I understand there's a filter for tranny, does that need to be changed? Thanks.

what kind of car and transmission 722.3,4,5 has a dip stick like an old chevy fill with dextron when car is warm and on level ground . if 722.6 (electronic trans ) suppose to be done at dealership there is a red/black lock tab over dip stick tube its s small stubby tube located pass sidde rear next to mass air sensor youll see a black cap with a red(if been replacement before by dealer tech.) or black tap lock
over the top of it pop it off pull the cap up install funnel and fill with mMERCEDES BENZ SPECIAL!!!!
722.6 FLUID !!!!! sells for $20/qt. NOTHING ELSE !!! OR DAMAGE OCCURES (*** and you need a special dip stick ($30) to measure the level ) now you can estimate it . add about 1/4 -1/2 qt depending how much fluid loss and you should be ok trans cooler line dont tens to leak that much fluid
now the new 722.9 trans used newer cars 2005 -up you need a dealer the fluid level is set from the drain bolt /life time fill dont even attempt!!!!!!!!

Nice info. I have a 1989 300E which leaks a small amount of fluid. Sounds like I will have to buy the transmission fluid from Mercedes. My dip stick has the small cap over it on the passenger side.

Sorry, I thought the profile on the side would show the type of the car. It's a 92 600 SEL and I'm assuming mine is electronic with the tap lock. Thanks.

no no the 722.6 cameout in 1995 with the 140 s class and in 1996 with the 210 E-class all other transmission before 1995 all take dextron fluid sold at any auto parts store for around 1.25/qt. now if you have the 722.6 electronic trans or an e-class 1996 - on and a s-class 1995 - on you need the special fluid from mb dealer only!!!!!

hey big dog yor car is pre -1995 so you use plain old atf from autozone
to decribe better the small black cap DOESNOT !! have a dip stick attached to it all it is
is a cover so dirt dont go down the tube thats why you have to buy the dipstick from the dealership i hope that helps. and remember the trans fluid is checked with the car on level ground and after it has already been warmed up !!! and dont overfill pass the full mark that may lead to some shifting issues
